CineMarvellous Preview: Action-Packed First Trailer for "G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation"

Action-Packed First Trailer for
G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation

Back in 2009, "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" ended up being a guilty pleasure for many action junkies out there, including me, as it was pure mindless entertainment, filled with explosive action and flashy visuals. The fans of the franchise should be happy, because next summer we'll all witness the "Retaliation"! The first super-cool trailer of the upcoming sequel is already out, and it promises that "G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation" will be a lot of fun, just like its predecessor. Check it out below.

Stylish Teaser Poster and

Impressive First Trailer for

The Cabin in the Woods

Finally! The first trailer for the "doomed" project "Cabin in the Woods" has arrived, and it's nothing like we had expected. In a good way. At first sight, it gives you the impression that this is the painfully familiar "young-people-stranded-in-the-woods" type of horror story, but the movie actually has some new tricks up its sleeve. It provides a unique sci-fi twist on a classic story, and judging from the trailer, it looks quite promising and pretty original as well. After it survived the bankruptcy of its distributor, MGM, and a delay (February 5, 2010) after delay (January 14, 2011) after delay (April 28, 2011), the new owners Lionsgate announced that they had acquired the distribution rights to the film and set a release date of April 13, 2012. It was about time! Check out the fantastically bizarre trailer below, and let me know what you think. :)

Star of the first two films, the absolutely gorgeous Kate Beckinsale is back on track, and ready to kick more werewolf asses, this time in 3D. She returns in her lead role as the vampire warrioress Selene, who escapes imprisonment to find herself in a world where humans have discovered the existence of both Vampire and Lycan clans, and are conducting an all-out war to eradicate both immortal species.

"Underworld: Awakening 3D" hits theaters on January 20, 2012.

CineMarvellous Preview: Short, Yet Mesmerizing New Trailer for Tsui Hark's "Flying Swords of Dragon Gate"

Short, Yet Mesmerizing New Trailer

for
Tsui Hark's WuXia Epic

Flying Swords of Dragon Gate

After the eye-popping trailer for Ching Siu-Tung's "The Sorcerer and the White", released a month ago, here's the new trailer for another hugely anticipated martial arts flick - Tsui Hark's 3D wuxia epic, "Flying Swords of Dragon Gate". Judging from the surprisingly short trailer, the visuals are absolutely stunning, and the wire-fu-driven action looks both, stylish and thrilling. Check out the new teaser below, and hopefully it will make you just as excited as it made me.

The movie stars Jet Li, Chen Kun, Zhou Xun, Louis Fan Siu-wong, Kwai Lun-mei, Mavis Fan and Li Yu-chun, and tells the story of the struggle between a Ming Dynasty general (Jet Li) and his rival, a powerful eunuch (Chen Kun). Although this film is based on the story of 1992's "New Dragon Gate Inn", Tsui denied that this film will be a remake of the old classic but more of a re-imagine. Tsui also worked on the screenplay in addition to directing and producing the film, to ensure the originality of the story. "Flying Swords of Dragon Gate" is shot entirely in 3D, being the first-ever 3D wuxia film in history, and it's scheduled for release in December this year.

CineMarvellous Preview: Gruesome Red Band Trailer for "Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings"

Gruesome Red Band Trailer for

Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings

I, personally, loved the original movie. I thought it was intense, brilliantly gory, highly entartaining and a fine example for a "guilty pleasure" type of horror movie. However, the first sequel failed to deliver the chills, and the second one was hardly watchable. This fall, director Declan O'Brien will bring "Wrong Turn 4: Bloody Beginnings" - obviously a prequel to the 2003 surprise hit, and judging from the trailer, it looks surprisingly decent, despite the fact it is a straght-to-DVD movie. Check out the red band trailer below, and let me know what you guys think of it.

“Wrong Turn 4″ DVD and Blu-ray release date is set for Oct 18, 2011.

Upcoming Shark Flicks: "Shark Night 3D" & "Bait 3D"

Upcoming Shark Movies in 2011:

The hideous 1983 film, "Jaws 3-D", was the first-ever 3D shark movie shown in theaters. However, the 3D gimmick and the tasty tagline ("The Third Dimension is Terror." Yeah, right.) didn't save the movie from being a complete and utter stinker.

Anyway, in 2011, what we get is not one, but two shark flicks in 3D. Okay, I confess - I'm kind of a sucker for shark movies, so these two certainly got my attention. Below, you can check out the official posters (click to enlarge), and teaser trailers for the upcoming 'biters', "Shark Night" and "Bait", both in 3D.

Shark Night 3D (2011)

A sexy summer weekend turns into a blood-soaked nightmare for a group of college students trapped on an island surrounded by voracious underwater predators in "Shark Night 3D", a terrifying thrill ride from director David Ellis ("Final Destination 2", "Snakes On a Plane"), featuring a red-hot young cast including Sara Paxton , Chris Carmack, Joel David Moore, Chris Zylka and Katharine McPhee.

But when star football player Malik stumbles from the salt-water lake with his arm torn off, the party mood quickly evaporates. Assuming the injury was caused by a freak wake-boarding accident, the group realizes they have to get Malik to a hospital on the other side of the lake, and fast. But as they set out in a tiny speedboat, the college friends discover the lake has been stocked with hundreds of massive, flesh-eating sharks! As they face one grisly death after another, Sara and the others struggle desperately to fend off the sharks, get help and stay alive long enough to reach the safety of dry land."

"Shark Night 3D" is scheduled for release on September 2nd.

The tsunami has brought some unwanted visitors from the depths. As the waters rise, they must overcome not only the threat of drowning but another threat, just as deadly and far more bloodthirsty ... packs of hungry tiger sharks."

Poster for Alexandre Aja's upcoming sci-fi action flick "Cobra: The Space Pirate"

"The Hills Have Eyes" and "Piranha 3D" director Alexandre Aja's next project won't be another crazy gorefest, but a badass-looking action flick, based on the late 70's space-opera manga series written and illustrated by Buichi Terasawa.

The film follows the eponymous rogue space pirate, a man who has surgically altered his face and erases his own memory to hide from his enemies. Cobra gradually regains his memories and unites with his old partner Lady Armaroid and his ship Tortuga. Together, the two set off on an adventure to recover a lost treasure on Mars.

"Cobra: The Space Pirate" hits theaters in 2013.

Stunning first stills from Ching Siu-Tung’s martial arts fantasy flick "The Sorcerer and the White Snake"

Acclaimed action choreographer Ching Siu-Tung, known for his work in Zhang Yimou's "Hero" and "House of Flying Daggers", directs this kung fu fantasy, based on the oral Chinese folktale "Legend of the White Snake", starring marital arts sensation Jet Li.

It tells the story of a young scholar who falls in love with a beautiful woman, unaware that she is a white snake that has taken on human form. A monk intervenes in order to save the scholar’s soul and casts the white snake into a deep well at the Leifeng Pagoda.

First stills and official poster for Paco Plaza's "[Rec] 3: Genesis"

"[Rec] 3: Genesis" Spanish director Paco Plaza directs the next installment in the hugely popular “[REC]” franchise, without his fella, Jaume Balagueró, who will direct the fourth installment, "[Rec] 4: Apocalypse".

In "Genesis", the action takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment, "[Rec] 4: Apocalypse".

A Stunning First Look: Chow Yun Fat as the Jade Emperor in the upcoming 3D fantasy "The Monkey King"

A Stunning First Look:

Chow Yun Fat as Jade Emperor in

The Monkey King 3D

The team behind the upcoming 3D fantasy extravaganza, "The Monkey King" (July 7, 2012), has finally unveiled the long anticipated look of one of the key characters, the Jade Emperor, played by one of the most popular and talented Chinese actors in film history, Chow Yun Fat. And it's utterly fantastic!

The Jade Emperor, in Chinese folk culture, is the Taoist ruler of Heaven and all realms of existence below including that of Man and Hell, according to a version of Taoist mythology. He is one of the most important gods of the Chinese traditional religion pantheon.

The traditional Jade Emperor often sits in the Lingxiao Hall, dressed in a golden dragon robe like ancient emperors. Yet, Fat Gor's costume has the daring change from gold to silver with a dragon head scepter in emperor's hand. The costume is a mix of the East and the West and has the royalty of the three worlds. Luckily, Chow Yun Fat's Jade Emperor won't be all talk and no action. Fat Gor will lead the gods in battle, and the dragon head scepter in his hand would be the Jade Emperor's ultimate weapon. As for why the dragon head scepter, art director Daniel Fu Dung explained: "Mainly the dragon head scepter is more regal than weapons like swords and has more weight to it. It is even more able to embody the Jade Emperor's identity as the ruler of three worlds". (via HKSAR Film)

The "The Monkey King 3D" is based on selected chapters of Wu Cheng'en's novel, "Journey to the West", and will tell the story of how the Monkey King rebels against the Jade Emperor of Heaven. For the 3-D shoot, Filmko recruited Hollywood talents. The crew includes David Ebner ("Alice in Wonderland", "Spider-Man 3"), who will serve as visual effects supervisor for the film and Shaun Smith ("The Forbidden Kingdom", "300", "I Am Legend"), who will be the special make-up supervisor. Donnie Yen who will play the title role of The Monkey King, will also serves as the film's action director. Production began in Beijing on 18 October 2010 and will be filmed in IMAX 3D.

In this version, Elizabeth and her sisters use Chinese martial arts to battle a plague of zombies while angling for husbands in their downtime. Her suitor, Mr. Darcy, is equally skilled in ninjitsu.
